Postcard from the Cascades, Central Oregon

After a lovely stop in Bend---my new favorite town---where we lunched at the Deschutes Brewery (to an excellent grilled salmon sandwich and hand-crafted rootbeer), we had rain off-and-on through the Cascades as we drove west. Unfortunately, this meant we didn't get to see Mt. Washington or Mt. Jefferson, or any of the high peaks of the lush mountain range except at a great distance. As we trekked along the Mackenzie River, however, we were able to make a quick though damp pull-off at Sahalie Falls:

The short trail from the lovely, deep, and dark parking area along the road.
. . . .

And a bridge on that trail, which got the girls dancing!
. . . .

Sahalie Falls, which hurls the Mackenzie River about 120 feet down.
. . . .

Another view of Sahalie Falls, a stop well worth making, as these photos don't do it justice.
. . . .

Next up: More urban and, shall we say, domestic venues....
